In a thrilling finale at the Houston Open Under-19 Squash Championship, Pakistan’s rising star, Huzaifa Ibrahim, emerged victorious, securing his 35th international title. The 18-year-old faced off against American Christian Kapila in a hard-fought contest, ultimately triumphing with a convincing scoreline of 0-3 (10-12, 8-11, 4-11).
Huzaifa’s journey to the title saw him display exceptional skills, notably defeating an American contender in the semifinals. The win comes ahead of the 2024 WSF World Junior Squash Championships, hosted by Houston, where the young Pakistani aims to make a mark.
The upcoming championships, scheduled from July 12 to 23, will witness both men’s and women’s junior individual tournaments held simultaneously at the Houston Squash Club. This landmark event is set to feature the first-ever concurrent men’s and women’s junior team championships in its history.
Huzaifa, currently ranked 192 in the world, is gearing up for the challenge, representing Pakistan in a bid to secure another accolade. Despite his recent success, the player from Karachi faced a setback in the form of denied support from the Pakistan Squash Federation for the British Junior Championship.
As Huzaifa prepares for the World Junior Championships in Houston, supporters believe Pakistan has a strong chance to lift the trophy in 2024, showcasing the nation’s prowess on the international squash stage. The young athlete, who began his professional journey just last week, continues to inspire with his dedication and passion for the sport.
