In a ground-breaking move for the world of combat sports, Saudi Arabia is set to host its first Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event this Saturday.
The event is set to deliver nail-biting matches featuring renowned fighters and champions from the MMA world, including several prominent names from the Professional Fighters League (PFL).
The PFL founder Donn Davis declared this tournament as a landmark moment in combat sports’ history. He predicted Saudi Arabia’s emergence as a potential centre for combat sports in the future.
The tournament will feature some of the biggest names in the MMA world, with the likes of Thiago Santos, Yoel Romero, Clay Collard, Ryan Bader, and Johnny Eblen fighting in the ring. The tournament offers substantial prize money and a coveted championship belt for the victor.
In a significant move, the tournament will feature female athletes competing in the religious kingdom. Among them, Claressa Shields, a decorated two-time Olympic gold medallist will make history alongside Kelsey DeSantis as the first women to compete on a professional MMA stage in Saudi Arabia.
