Pakistan Customs successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle gold worth Rs10.1 million at Karachi airport. The culprit, identified as Nizamuddin, a passenger returning from Dubai, was apprehended when customs officials discovered the hidden gold during routine luggage scanning.
The illicit gold, carefully concealed in Nizamuddin’s luggage, was promptly seized, leading to his immediate custody. This marks another victory for Customs, following a similar success last April at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. On that occasion, officials intercepted a woman passenger bound for Doha attempting to smuggle 65,000 US dollars (approximately Rs12 million) in her baggage. The currency was confiscated, but the passenger was still allowed to board her flight.
These incidents underscore the vigilance and effectiveness of Pakistan Customs in combating illegal activities at airports.
