Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has officially distanced itself from YouTubers Adil Raja and Haider Mehdi, urging the public not to trust them. PTI leader Asad Qaiser, accompanied by Sher Afzal Marwat and other party members, emphasized that the party has no association with Raja and Mehdi. Qaiser, in a video statement, criticized the duo for their slanderous campaign against Marwat.
Highlighting that PTI has its own media and spokespersons, Qaiser stressed that only official platforms should be trusted for party statements. He mentioned that these YouTubers had previously led social media campaigns against other political figures within PTI.
Notably, Raja and Mehdi, both retired officers of the Pakistan Army, faced serious consequences on November 25, 2023. They were court-martialled and convicted for “inciting sedition” under the Army Act and violating the Official Secrets Act.
Major (retd) Adil Farooq Raja received a 14-year sentence, while Captain (retd) Haider Raza Mehdi was sentenced to 12 years of rigorous imprisonment. The convictions were related to charges of sedition among army personnel and acts prejudicial to the safety and interest of the state. The two individuals, now based outside Pakistan, had their ranks forfeited on November 21, 2023.
