Senate’s Leader of the House and PML-N leader Ishaq Dar recently revealed that he made extensive efforts to repatriate Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, a Pakistani national imprisoned in the United States. Dar emphasized that attempts were made during Nawaz Sharif’s tenure in 2013, including discussions at the White House, but US denied.
Dar shared his continued efforts in 2018 and detailed discussions with the current US Foreign Minister, Antony Blinken, on three occasions. He expressed a commitment to making it a priority to bring Aafia back once the cabinet is formed, assuring that diplomatic efforts will be pursued diligently. Dar highlighted that no Pakistani wishes for her to endure further suffering abroad.
He underscored the collective desire to see Aafia return to her homeland and mentioned that both Nawaz Sharif and himself had worked towards this cause. The statement concluded with Dar’s assurance that the new cabinet would focus on urging the US to send Aafia back, emphasizing the importance of adhering to legal processes.
