The Ministry of IT and Telecom is gearing up to present a new mobile phone financing policy to Minister of State for IT and Telecom, Shaza Fatima Khawja. Sources within the ministry have disclosed that once Minister Khawja gives her nod, the policy will then move on to the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Finance for a final review. After that, it will be up for approval by the federal cabinet.
Drafted back in November last year, this policy has undergone intense scrutiny and fine-tuning. Now, it’s almost ready for the big leagues, pending approval by the federal cabinet.
What’s this policy all about? Well, it’s about making it easier for folks to get their hands on the latest smartphones through a special financing program. The plan is to offer interest-free installment options to people, making cutting-edge technology more accessible to everyone.
But there’s a catch for those who don’t keep up with their payments. If you miss out on your installments, your phone might get blocked. It’s a move aimed at encouraging responsible ownership and preventing misuse.
This policy isn’t just about financing, though. The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is also going to be a big player in making sure everything runs smoothly. They’ll be using their Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) to enforce the rules and block devices when necessary.
According to the Ministry of IT and Telecom, this policy shows the government’s dedication to bridging the digital gap and making sure everyone can benefit from technology. With easier access to smartphones, they hope to empower people from all walks of life to make the most of modern tech.
