In a bid to supercharge Pakistan’s IT exports, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has unveiled plans for the country’s largest Information Technology Park (IT Park) in the federal capital.
This ambitious venture, spearheaded by the newly elected Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, aims to bolster the IT industry through tangible actions. A sprawling 3.3-acre plot in Sector G-10 has been earmarked for the IT Park following approval from the CDA Board.
Encompassing an impressive 100,000 square feet area, the park is envisioned to accommodate around 5,000 to 6,000 freelancers simultaneously.
Located in Islamabad, the IT Park will feature a host of facilities including a research center, library, software house, conference rooms, and dedicated spaces for freelancers and startups, along with an area for showcasing IT products.
The construction of this landmark project will be funded by private IT companies, which will also lease office spaces within the premises. However, ultimate ownership will reside with the CDA.
PM Shehbaz Sharif, during a recent meeting with stakeholders in the IT and Telecom sector, directed concerned authorities to draft a comprehensive roadmap for augmenting Pakistan’s IT exports.
He underscored the importance of fully harnessing the country’s potential in IT exports, stressing the provision of education, skills, and necessary facilities to empower the youth and foster startup culture.
Highlighting the positive outcomes of previous initiatives in the IT industry, the Prime Minister pointed out the resolution of banking-related issues faced by startups, freelancers, and IT firms.
