In a move echoing the success of the Billion Tree Tsunami initiative, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government under the leadership of CM Ali Amin Gandapur has set sights on a new endeavor – the Billion Tree Plus project.
In a recent meeting chaired by CM Gandapur in Peshawar, key officials, including Provincial Minister for Forests Fazal Hakim, gathered to kickstart preparations for the ambitious project.
During the session, administrative affairs of the forest department, its performance metrics, and outlined targets were thoroughly discussed and briefed to the Chief Minister.
Emphasizing on the preservation of forests, CM Gandapur directed officials to ramp up efforts to curb tree-cutting activities and bolster departmental revenue. One noteworthy directive was to escalate fines to a level surpassing the value of wood obtained from tree-cutting, aiming to deter such activities.
To combat timber smuggling, the installation of CCTV cameras at all checkpoints was also ordered, aiming to enhance surveillance and enforcement measures.
Speaking on the significance of forest conservation, CM Gandapur reiterated the government’s commitment to safeguarding natural assets for future generations, labeling it as a top priority.
Highlighting the environmental benefits, he stressed that expanding forest cover would play a crucial role in offsetting the adverse effects of climate change.
Furthermore, officials from the Wildlife Department were tasked with drafting proposals and devising an action plan to bolster fisheries promotion across the province.
