Pakistani forces conduct anti-terror operations in Afghanistan

Earlier today, Pakistani forces launched intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in border regions within Afghanistan to target terrorists responsible for recent attacks on Pakistani soil, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) confirmed on Monday.

The focus of today’s operation was on militants affiliated with the Hafiz Gul Bahadur Group, along with the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). These groups have been linked to the March 16 attack in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, and numerous other attacks across Pakistan, resulting in the deaths of civilians and law enforcement personnel.

Over the weekend, seven Pakistani Army soldiers, including a lieutenant colonel and captain, were martyred in a courageous defense against terrorists who attacked a security post in Mir Ali, North Waziristan.

The Foreign Office issued a detailed statement expressing Pakistan’s longstanding concerns to the Afghan government regarding the presence of terror outfits, including the TTP, within Afghanistan. Pakistan emphasized the grave threat these terrorists pose to its security and their use of Afghan territory to launch attacks.

Pakistan stressed the importance of Afghan sovereignty and territorial integrity, advocating for dialogue and cooperation to combat the terrorist threat. Despite repeated calls for action against the TTP, certain elements within Afghanistan are accused of patronizing these groups, undermining bilateral relations.

In response, the Afghan Taliban denied any involvement in compromising Afghanistan’s security, condemning Pakistani airstrikes in eastern border provinces. However, Pakistan’s military attributes the recent surge in terrorism within its borders to terrorists infiltrating from Afghanistan, with evidence pointing to Afghan terrorists’ involvement in recent attacks.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted the ongoing battle against terrorism, emphasizing the role of Afghan soil in facilitating terrorist activities in Pakistan. The supply of modern weapons via Afghan Taliban assistance exacerbates the situation, with clear evidence linking Afghan terrorists to specific attacks on Pakistani military installations.

The Defence Minister previously remarked on the significant role of Afghanistan in enabling terrorism against Pakistan, indicating a pressing need for joint efforts to address cross-border threats.

In light of these developments, Pakistan remains committed to countering terrorism and safeguarding regional peace and security, urging cooperation from its Afghan counterparts to tackle the shared challenge of terrorism effectively.
