Billionaire Elon Musk recently opened up about his use of psychedelic drugs, particularly ketamine, to manage his depression, claiming it aids him in leading his company, Tesla.
In an interview with journalist Don Lemon, Musk discussed his experiences with ketamine, stating that it helps lift him out of negative mental states. He mentioned using the medication sparingly, about once every other week, under the guidance of a doctor. Musk emphasized the importance of maintaining mental clarity for his demanding work schedule, noting that excessive ketamine use could hinder productivity.
While he admitted to using ketamine, Musk clarified that he abstains from alcohol and marijuana. However, he did not specify whether he remains sober while working late at night, leaving room for interpretation.
Addressing concerns about the impact of his drug usage on Tesla’s operations and investor relations, Musk stressed that what matters most to investors is the company’s performance and value creation. He attributed his depression to genetic factors and expressed confidence that his drug use would not affect Tesla’s standing with investors or government contracts.
Reports from the Wall Street Journal suggested that Musk has also experimented with other drugs like LSD, cocaine, ecstasy, and psychedelic mushrooms, often at private parties where guests are required to sign nondisclosure agreements or surrender their phones.
The issue of Musk’s drug use reportedly caused tension within Tesla’s board, with former director Linda Johnson Rice opting not to seek re-election due to concerns about Musk’s behavior.
