Pakistani feminism is all about hating men, says Rabya Kulsoom

Pakistani actor Rabya Kulsoom has expressed her concerns regarding the misinterpretation of feminism in the country, particularly in relation to the Aurat March movement.

During a recent podcast, Kulsoom lamented the way feminism is often misunderstood and misused in Pakistan, emphasizing that it’s not just men but also women who mistreat the concept. She highlighted the importance of feminism as a crucial topic but voiced her dismay that its true message fails to reach its intended audience.

Kulsoom criticized certain placards seen at Aurat Marches, citing examples like “Find your own sock,” which she believed could reinforce harmful stereotypes and potentially escalate violence against women. She argued that feminism encompasses broader issues beyond domestic chores, including women’s rights to education and career advancement.

While expressing her support for the Aurat March, Kulsoom disapproved of its current direction, which she felt focused too heavily on condemning men rather than advocating for women’s rights. She emphasized that the essence of Aurat March should be about empowering women rather than vilifying men.

According to Kulsoom, messages urging women to neglect their domestic duties deviate from the true essence of feminism and Aurat March. She questioned the effectiveness of such rhetoric and urged for a shift towards a more inclusive and empowering approach.

Kulsoom’s comments have sparked discussions regarding the portrayal of feminism in Pakistan and the direction of the Aurat March movement. Her perspective highlights the need for a nuanced understanding of feminism and its application in advocating for women’s rights in the country.
