PMD announces expected Eid date in Pakistan

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has announced the probable date for Eid ul Fitr 2024 in Pakistan. As per the Met Office, it’s likely to be celebrated on April 11, which means Pakistanis will complete 30 fasts during the holy month of Ramadan this year.

Ramadan kicked off on March 12 in the country, and it’s anticipated that the Shawwal moon will be sighted on April 10 (Wednesday). Last December, the Cabinet Division disclosed the holiday schedule for the year, declaring off days for Eid ul Fitr from April 10 to April 12 (Wednesday to Friday).

This arrangement will provide a long weekend for many Pakistanis, offering a stretch of five days off. Over in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Eid ul Fitr is expected to start on April 10. According to Ibrahim Al Jarwan, the chairman of the board of directors of the Emirates Astronomy Society, the Shawwal moon is likely to be spotted on April 9, with Ramadan possibly lasting 30 days.
