Conor McGregor, the renowned former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Featherweight and Lightweight Champion, has officially announced his return to the Octagon this summer. According to a report by the Daily Mail, McGregor is set to face off against his long-time rival Michael Chandler.
In an interview discussing his feature-film debut in “Road House,” McGregor disclosed that he had received confirmation about his comeback to the UFC this summer, with Chandler lined up as his opponent. While McGregor had previously hinted at a matchup against Chandler at UFC 303 on June 29, official details of the fight are yet to be revealed.
Expressing his eagerness for the showdown, McGregor stated, “We got confirmation a few days ago that it’s all systems go and ‘The Mac,’ ‘The Notorious’ will be returning to the UFC Octagon this summer.”
The anticipation for this fight escalated after Chandler expressed his interest in facing McGregor, notably during their coaching stint on “The Ultimate Fighter.” Chandler even took to World Wrestling Entertainment’s “Monday Night Raw” to challenge McGregor.
In response to Chandler’s call-out, McGregor affirmed his readiness for the fight, declaring, “I’m going to bust Mike up, yeah? If I say it, I do it. … If I say it, it gets done. Put that on my stone.”
Despite McGregor’s bold statements, Chandler humorously questioned his readiness for a summer fight, jokingly stating, “I’m not sure I’ll be ready for a summer fight…this came out of the blue…I’ve been out of the loop.” He then requested confirmation from UFC President Dana White.
McGregor, who last secured a UFC victory in January 2020, further discussed his upcoming bout with Chandler while in New York City, where he was photographed alongside “Road House” co-star Jake Gyllenhaal.
