Renowned diplomat and former Chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Shahryar M. Khan, has sadly passed away at the age of 89 in Lahore. His family confirmed his demise, marking the end of an extraordinary journey that saw him playing pivotal roles in both cricket and diplomacy.
Shahryar Khan was born on March 29, 1934, in Lucknow, India. He received his early education there before moving to England for higher studies. After the partition of India, he migrated to Pakistan and settled in Karachi, where he embarked on a distinguished career in diplomacy.
Apart from serving as Pakistan’s Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Shahryar Khan made an indelible mark on cricket, managing the national team and chairing the PCB twice.
His efforts in cricket diplomacy between Pakistan and India, highlighted by his familial connection to former Indian captain Nawab Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, are widely acknowledged.
On Saturday morning, Shahryar Khan’s health took a sudden turn for the worse, leading to his passing. He is survived by his widow and four children.
Plans for his funeral prayers in Karachi will be announced soon as his body is transported via air ambulance to its final resting place.
