Aalia Rasheed, the Media Director of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has tendered her resignation from her position. The announcement came via a post on social media platform X, previously known as Twitter.
Speculations are rife that Aamir Mir, former spokesperson of the Punjab government, is poised to step into Rasheed’s shoes as the new PCB Media Director.
Rasheed’s tenure as Media Director began during the chairmanship of Zaka Ashraf. However, her resignation comes amidst mounting pressure, particularly following an incident where she released a statement regarding the captaincy without consulting Shaheen Shah Afridi, the cricketer in question.
Sources within the PCB suggest that Rasheed faced considerable backlash following the aforementioned incident, which ultimately led to her resignation.
In another significant development, the Pakistan Cricket Team has announced a change in leadership. Following a unanimous recommendation from the PCB’s selection committee, Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has appointed Babar Azam as the new white-ball captain for the Pakistan men’s cricket team.
Babar Azam’s elevation to the captaincy role sees him taking over from Shaheen Shah Afridi in the T20 format. Additionally, he reclaims the helm in One Day Internationals (ODIs) after a hiatus of five months. Babar Azam was relieved of his ODI captaincy duties following Pakistan’s disappointing performance in the 2023 World Cup.
The decision to appoint Babar Azam as the new captain signifies a strategic move by the PCB as they aim to rejuvenate the team’s performance under his leadership.
