In a recent development, Pakistani fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has exhibited signs of frustration and anger after being stripped of his captaincy role in the T20I squad. Afridi took to his Instagram story to convey his emotions, displaying a video wherein he appears visibly agitated.
The video shared on his Instagram story captures Afridi asserting, “Never ever put me in a position where I have to show you how cruel and ruthless I can be. Don’t test my patience, because I might be the kindest and sweetest person you’ve ever met, but once I reach my limit, you’ll see me do the things that no one thought I was capable of doing.”
This cryptic message has sparked speculation among viewers, with many interpreting it as Afridi’s discontentment with those involved in his removal from the national team’s leadership.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on March 29th the appointment of Babar Azam as the new white-ball captain for the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand, scheduled to commence on April 18th. The decision to replace Afridi was characterized by the PCB as a “strategic move” aimed at prioritizing player well-being and performance optimization.
In a statement, the PCB emphasized that the alteration in captaincy was part of its commitment to safeguarding the long-term health of players, particularly fast bowlers like Afridi.
Notably, Afridi had been appointed as the T20 skipper subsequent to Babar Azam’s resignation from the role in November 2023, following Pakistan’s underwhelming performance in the 2023 Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.
