In a recent development amplifying Pakistan’s long-standing claims, The Guardian, a renowned British daily newspaper, has unveiled shocking details suggesting that the Indian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, allegedly sanctioned “killings” on Pakistani territory.
The report brings to light what Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Syrus Qazi described as a “sophisticated and sinister” campaign of extra-territorial and extra-judicial killings orchestrated by India. This revelation follows Pakistan’s assertions, backed by what they term as “credible evidence,” of Indian involvement in the deaths of two Pakistani citizens on its soil.
Foreign Secretary Qazi, during a press conference in Islamabad earlier this year, asserted that the killings were part of a larger pattern involving Indian agents operating across international borders. The statement comes on the heels of similar accusations by Canada and the United States, both of which have separately accused Indian agents of being linked to assassination attempts on their soil.
According to The Guardian’s report, the Indian government allegedly ordered the assassination of individuals within Pakistan. Citing intelligence sources, the publication claims that India has adopted a policy of targeting individuals deemed hostile to its interests on foreign soil.
The notorious Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), India’s intelligence agency directly controlled by the Prime Minister’s office, purportedly began carrying out these extrajudicial killings abroad following the 2019 Pulwama attack, where 44 Indian paramilitary soldiers were killed in the Pulwama district of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Reports suggest that since 2020, Indian agents have been behind the deaths of at least 20 individuals on Pakistani soil, with allegations indicating that Sikh separatists associated with the Khalistan movement were among the targets.
The increase in targeted killings in Pakistan in 2023 is attributed to Indian intelligence sleeper cells, as per The Guardian’s report. These operations allegedly involved recruiting individuals to carry out shootings under false pretenses, making them believe they were targeting “infidels.”
In response to these damning allegations, Indian authorities have vehemently denied any involvement, labeling them as “false and malicious anti-India propaganda.” Despite India’s denial, senior officials from Pakistani intelligence agencies suspect India’s involvement in up to 20 killings since 2020 on their soil.
The report underscores the gravity of the situation, highlighting the deepening tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors and the potential ramifications for regional stability.
