The United States and Israel are bracing for potential retaliation from Iran following an attack on the Iranian embassy in Syria earlier this week. A senior US official confirmed on Friday that heightened vigilance is in place amid concerns that Iran may target Israeli or American assets in the region.
The tension escalated after suspected Israeli warplanes bombed Iran’s embassy in Damascus on Monday, resulting in the death of an Iranian military commander and six other military advisors. Among the casualties was Mohammad Reza Zahedi, a senior commander in Iran’s elite Quds Force.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps stated that the attack was a significant escalation and declared their entitlement to take a decisive response. This development has put both the US and Israel on edge, with fears of potential reprisals in the coming days.
American President Joe Biden addressed the threat posed by Iran during a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday. A senior Biden administration official confirmed ongoing communication between the two nations, emphasizing the United States’ full support for Israel’s defense against threats from Iran.
The situation remains tense as both the US and Israel prepare for possible retaliatory actions from Iran, heightening security measures in the region.
