Tragedy struck during a landslide clearance operation in Chillas as a soldier of the Pakistan Army embraced martyrdom on Saturday. The soldier, identified as Naib Subedar Khalid, succumbed to critical injuries sustained during the operation, while two others were left critically injured.
According to reports from the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the incident occurred on April 4 when a landslide near Gonar Farm blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH), halting all types of traffic. Responding swiftly to aid the affected traffic and stranded individuals, a detachment of the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) led by Naib Subedar Khalid and two soldiers rushed to the site and commenced clearance operations.
Tragically, while engaged in the clearance process, another landslide occurred, resulting in critical injuries to the detachment. Naib Subedar Khalid, displaying exemplary courage and dedication, fought valiantly but ultimately succumbed to his injuries, attaining the status of martyrdom. The injured soldiers, identified as Sepoy Waseem and Lance Naik Azmat, are currently undergoing treatment as they recover from serious injuries.
In a statement, the ISPR expressed gratitude for the service and dedication of the soldiers, emphasizing Pakistan Army’s unwavering commitment to serving the nation in the face of adversity. The sacrifice of Naib Subedar Khalid serves as a poignant reminder of the bravery and selflessness exhibited by Pakistan’s armed forces in their efforts to safeguard the nation and its people.
