PPP MNA seeks COAS’s help against crimes in Sindh

In a fervent appeal to Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Member of National Assembly (MNA) Makhdoom Jameel Uz Zaman has urged for decisive action to tackle the escalating crime wave in Sindh.

Addressing the media in Matiari, Zaman highlighted the alarming surge in crime rates across the province, particularly in Karachi, emphasizing the urgent need for intervention by the military to quell the menace.

“The army chief is requested to take action and save Sindh from this calamity forever. All the stakeholders should sit at a table. How long will we protest and run movements?” Zaman exclaimed.

The plea comes in the wake of a string of street crimes in Karachi, resulting in numerous casualties, with innocent citizens falling victim to brazen acts of robbery and violence. The situation has exacerbated during the holy month of Ramadan, with criminals seemingly emboldened.

Statistics reveal a grim reality, with at least 50 lives lost to street crimes from January to March. Additionally, encounters between police and robbers have resulted in casualties among the perpetrators, with dozens arrested, albeit injured.

The urgency of the matter was underscored by the Sindh High Court (SHC), which issued a stern ultimatum to provincial authorities to restore law and order within a month. Justice Abbasi, presiding over the case, emphasized the need for stringent action against influential figures contributing to the deterioration of peace.

In response to the court’s directive, Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon acknowledged the gravity of the situation, identifying street crimes as a primary factor disrupting peace in Karachi. He also cited the challenge posed by riverine bandits in other regions of the province.

As calls for decisive action intensify, the appeal by PPP’s MNA signals a growing consensus on the need for a concerted effort to stem the tide of criminality plaguing Sindh. With the specter of violence looming large, the onus now rests on authorities to heed the plea for intervention and restore safety and security to the embattled province.
