In anticipation of the upcoming harvest season, the provincial cabinet of Punjab has greenlit the wheat procurement policy for the fiscal year 2024-25.
Sources embedded within the Food Department reveal that comprehensive arrangements for wheat procurement at the district level have been meticulously finalized.
To streamline and expedite the procurement process, a vast network comprising 393 wheat procurement centers has been established across the expanse of Punjab, according to informed sources.
In a bid to protect the interests of small-scale farmers, sources disclose that the eligibility criteria for bard acquisition have been capped at a maximum of 6 acres of land.
Moreover, to modernize and simplify the application procedure, the Food Department will inaugurate a dedicated mobile application called “Bardana,” commencing operations from April 13.
In a move to ensure equitable remuneration for farmers, the provincial government has stipulated the support price of wheat at Rs 3900 per maund.
The approval of the wheat procurement policy stands as a pivotal step taken by the Punjab cabinet, reflecting the government’s commitment to fortify agricultural support systems and bolster the welfare of farmers across the province.
