Saudi FM reaffirms support for Pakistan’s economic development

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, currently on a two-day official visit to Islamabad, has reiterated his country’s commitment to bolstering economic ties with Pakistan. Addressing a joint press conference alongside Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Tuesday, Prince Faisal emphasized Saudi Arabia’s dedication to playing a significant role in Pakistan’s economic progress.

The visit follows discussions between Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, which laid the groundwork for enhanced cooperation between the two nations. Prince Faisal noted that the delegation’s visit was a direct result of these high-level engagements, indicating the seriousness with which Saudi Arabia regards its relationship with Pakistan.

Expressing gratitude for the warm reception in Pakistan, Prince Faisal underscored the potential for increased investment and collaboration between the two countries. He highlighted sectors such as energy, agriculture, minerals, and IT as areas ripe for further investment, with plans for significant progress in the coming months.

Foreign Minister Dar echoed Prince Faisal’s sentiments, expressing optimism about Pakistan’s role as an investment hub and reaffirming the government’s commitment to facilitating Saudi investment. He emphasized the importance of transforming bilateral cooperation into a strategic partnership, pointing to initiatives such as the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) aimed at streamlining foreign investment processes.

Both sides expressed a shared concern over the ongoing crisis in Gaza, lamenting the failure of the international community to enforce a ceasefire and provide humanitarian aid to the affected population. Calling for immediate action to avert further suffering, they demanded the opening of humanitarian corridors and an end to the blockade hindering aid delivery.

With over 33,000 Palestinians already killed and the region facing a dire humanitarian crisis, both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia urged swift international intervention to address the situation. They called for accountability for human rights violations and emphasized the need for urgent measures to alleviate the suffering of the people of Gaza.

The visit of the Saudi delegation not only signals a strengthening of bilateral ties between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan but also underscores their shared commitment to regional stability and development.
