Tragedy struck on Thursday as a young motorbike rider lost his life in a collision with a vehicle belonging to the security squad of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. The incident occurred in the Chandowal area of Narowal district.
According to the district police officer (DPO), the vehicles were en route to Kartarpur for the security arrangements of CM Maryam. It was reported that the elite security squad’s vehicle collided with the motorcycle while attempting to overtake it.
The chief minister was on a visit to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur to address a gathering of pilgrims for the Baisakhi Mela.
Following the accident, the victim’s body was promptly transferred to the Narowal district headquarters hospital. An FIR was lodged on behalf of the victim’s family, seeking legal action against those responsible.
The DPO assured that after a thorough investigation, “indiscriminate legal action” would be taken against the individuals accountable for the tragic incident.
The case was filed by the victim’s cousin at the Saddar police station, outlining the injustice suffered by their family. In the FIR, the cousin recounted being informed of the collision while working at his shop, noting that his cousin, Abu Bakar, succumbed to his injuries at the DHQ hospital.
The incident has sparked outrage, with demands for justice echoing through the local community.
