President Zardari urges unity, collaboration in address to joint Parliament session

President Asif Ali Zardari, in a significant address to the joint session of parliament on Thursday, called for concerted efforts to navigate Pakistan through its current challenges. Amid protests from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) lawmakers, President Zardari emphasized the need for all stakeholders to contribute to the nation’s prosperity.

Expressing gratitude for his re-election as president, Zardari underscored the importance of a unified agenda and ideology to strengthen the nation. He urged political leaders to prioritize national interests and overcome differences for the greater good.

“We have to carry out different economic reforms and make ties between provinces cordial,” remarked President Zardari, highlighting the imperative for economic development and inter-provincial harmony.

Emphasizing the significance of positive action and institutional harmony, Zardari urged for a new chapter in Pakistani politics, focusing on inclusive growth and public welfare.

The joint session, convened by the president under constitutional provisions, marked Zardari’s seventh address to parliament. Notable attendees included Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Aseefa Bhutto, along with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

In a further demonstration of his commitment to parliamentary proceedings, President Zardari announced the summoning of the National Assembly session for the following day, continuing the legislative agenda.

This joint session, following the commencement of the new parliamentary year, comes after the delay caused by the Senate elections. Former President Arif Alvi’s inability to summon a joint session earlier, despite elections on February 8, led to this significant gathering being postponed until now.

In previous sessions, attended by a spectrum of national and provincial leaders, the joint parliament sessions have served as platforms for addressing key national issues and fostering collaboration across governmental bodies.

As Pakistan navigates through its political landscape, President Zardari’s call for unity and collaborative action resonates as a pivotal step towards national progress and stability.
