Punjab on alert as PMD warns of heavy rains till April 29

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has issued directives to provincial authorities in anticipation of heavy rainfall forecasted to sweep across the region. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) alerted concerned agencies to prepare for a new spell of precipitation expected to persist until April 29.

According to the PMD, moderate to heavy rains are predicted in various cities, including Lahore, from April 26 to 29. The forecast encompasses a wide area, with regions such as Murree, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, and Bahawalpur expected to experience rain accompanied by thunderstorms.

In response, CM Maryam has instructed commissioners, deputy commissioners, and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) managing director to remain vigilant and ensure proactive measures for rainwater drainage. Emphasizing the need for continuous monitoring, she urged officials to utilize all available resources to mitigate potential flooding.

Traffic management during adverse weather conditions also received attention, with the chief minister directing traffic wardens to facilitate smooth vehicular movement. Additionally, rescue services have been put on high alert to swiftly respond to emergencies, particularly in low-lying areas prone to flooding.

In a bid to enhance preparedness, CM Maryam stressed the importance of preemptive warnings to residents and leveraging media platforms for dissemination. Livestock protection measures in rural areas were also highlighted as a priority.
