Vawda questions IHC regarding Justice Sattar’s Green Card Controversy

In a recent development, Senator Faisal Vawda has penned a letter to the Registrar of the Islamabad High Court, seeking transparency regarding the correspondence between Honourable Justice Babar Sattar and the then Chief Justice Athar Minallah. The letter, a copy of which has been obtained by our sources, urges the court to provide information under Article 19-A of the Constitution.

Citing a Supreme Court judgment (PLD 2024 SC 192) that underscores the obligation of constitutional courts to uphold transparency, Senator Vawda emphasized the need for the Islamabad High Court to disclose information related to Justice Sattar’s reported possession of a US Green Card prior to his elevation.

The correspondence in question allegedly involves Justice Sattar informing the then Chief Justice of his Green Card status, as highlighted in a recent press release issued by the Islamabad High Court. Senator Vawda, in his letter, expressed his belief in the independence of the judiciary and stressed the importance of maintaining judicial integrity, as outlined in the code of conduct for judges of superior courts.

The Senator acknowledged the swift response by the court to address the controversy surrounding Justice Sattar’s Green Card. However, he reiterated the significance of making the specific correspondence public to put an end to what he described as a “malicious campaign” once and for all. It underscores the public’s eagerness for transparency and accountability in this matter.

As the Islamabad High Court receives this letter, the nation awaits its response, anticipating a resolution to the ongoing controversy surrounding Justice Babar Sattar’s Green Card status.
