In a bid to bolster bilateral defence relations, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir engaged in a crucial meeting with United Kingdom’s Chief of the General Staff (CGS) General Patrick Sanders. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) disclosed this development in a statement issued on Wednesday.
The high-level meeting, held on Wednesday, delved into matters of professional significance aiming to amplify the ongoing cooperation between the two nations in defence affairs. The discussions primarily revolved around strategies to further strengthen the already robust defence ties between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
This significant development follows the joint appearance of both dignitaries at the inauguration session of the sixth Pakistan-UK Regional Stabilisation Conference, which took place at the National Defence University in Islamabad the previous day. The event saw the attendance of designate CGS UK Army General Sir Roland Walker, underscoring the importance both nations place on this forum.
The Pakistan-UK Stabilisation Conference stands as a pinnacle in defence and security dialogues between the two countries, occurring alternately in Pakistan and the UK. This prestigious gathering congregates a diverse array of experts including diplomats, defence officials, intellectuals, and civil society representatives.
Coinciding with the conference, a 30-member delegation from the UK is scheduled to visit Pakistan from April 29 to May 3, spearheaded by Standing Joint Force Commander Major General Tom Bateman. Their visit is poised to further cement the bonds of cooperation between the two nations.
Throughout the conference, delegates from both Pakistan and the UK are slated to exchange insights on global and regional dynamics affecting national security, as well as deliberating on measures to ensure regional peace and stability.
In a gesture of appreciation, COAS Munir extended gratitude to General Sanders for his efforts in fortifying bilateral military relations. Additionally, he extended felicitations to General Walker on his forthcoming assumption of the role of CGS of the UK Army, acknowledging the pivotal role he is expected to play in further advancing the ties between the two nations.
