In a significant move aimed at revamping Punjab’s educational framework, Education Minister Sikandar Hayat has unveiled plans to dismantle the Punjab Curriculum and Textbook Board (PCTB) and consolidate multiple educational institutions into a single entity.
During an exclusive interview with Samaa TV in Lahore, Minister Hayat detailed the comprehensive reform agenda, which includes merging the PCTB, Punjab Education Commission, and teacher training institutions into one streamlined body. This restructuring aims to enhance educational governance and effectiveness under centralized leadership.
The minister emphasized that a new department, headed by the Chief Minister, will oversee all sectors involved in education. This consolidation is expected to streamline curriculum development functions and ensure greater coordination among educational entities.
Under the restructured setup, direct oversight of the education department will be assumed by the Chief Minister of Punjab. Minister Hayat noted that representation from private institutions will also be included in the department to foster collaboration across sectors.
Furthermore, the minister stressed the active engagement of educators and stakeholders at all levels. He highlighted the importance of incorporating teachers’ expertise and insights into the development of educational materials, including textbooks and examination papers.
Quality standards in educational materials will remain a priority, with ongoing evaluation and improvement processes informed by teachers’ and students’ perspectives.
The announced reforms signify a significant step towards modernizing Punjab’s education system and ensuring its alignment with contemporary educational standards.
