Pakistan to tour South Africa for multi-format cricket series in December

In an announcement made on Friday, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) unveiled plans for the Pakistani national cricket team, known as the Green Shirts, to embark on a tour of South Africa in December. The tour will comprise three T20Is, three ODIs, and two Tests, adding to the excitement in the cricketing world.

The tour will kick off with the T20I series, with matches scheduled to take place in Durban, Centurion, and Johannesburg from December 10 to 14. Following this, the action will shift to the ODIs, set to be held in Paarl, Cape Town, and Johannesburg from December 17 to 22. The tour will culminate with two Test matches, part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25, slated for December 26 to 30 and January 3 to 7 in Centurion and Cape Town, respectively.

According to the PCB, the Pakistani team will depart for Durban on December 2, shortly after concluding their series in Australia from November 4 to 18. Upon completing their engagements in South Africa on January 8, the team will return home to participate in a three-nation ODI tournament involving New Zealand and South Africa, followed by the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, to be hosted in Pakistan.

The PCB also revealed the packed schedule awaiting Pakistan in the latter half of 2024, including series against Bangladesh and England prior to the tours of Australia and South Africa. This period will see Pakistan playing a total of seven Tests, at least 10 ODIs, and six T20Is, showcasing their endurance and commitment to international cricket.

Notably, this will mark Pakistan’s seventh Test tour of South Africa since 1994-95. Reflecting on past encounters, Pakistan secured memorable victories in the 1997-98 and 2006-2007 series, with standout performances from players like Azhar Mahmood, Saeed Anwar, Mushtaq Ahmed, and Shoaib Akhtar.

In ODIs, Pakistan has had mixed fortunes against South Africa, with victories in two of the last three series. Similarly, in T20Is, Pakistan holds a slight edge over their opponents, leading 6-5 in head-to-head encounters.

Detailed Schedule:

– 10 Dec – 1st T20I, Durban
– 13 Dec – 2nd T20I, Centurion
