Uzbek foreign minister arrives in Pakistan for two-day official visit

The Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, arrived in Pakistan on Wednesday for a significant two-day official visit aimed at bolstering bilateral ties between the two nations.

Upon his arrival, Saidov was warmly greeted, with the Director General (Central Asia & ECO) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aizaz Khan, extending a cordial welcome.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Saidov is scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, as well as engage in substantive discussions with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The agenda for these discussions encompasses a wide array of bilateral issues, with a particular emphasis on enhancing trade and connectivity between Uzbekistan and Pakistan, as outlined by the Foreign Office.

According to officials, the visit is anticipated to inject fresh momentum into the amicable relations shared by the two countries.

In parallel developments, reports have surfaced indicating a prospective visit by the Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Bin Salman Al Saud, to Pakistan later this month. This visit marks a significant diplomatic event, as it would be the first time the Saudi Crown Prince has visited Pakistan in five years, with his last visit dating back to February 2019.

Sources suggest that during the upcoming visit, Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) potentially worth $5 billion in investments may be inked. Finalization of the dates for the crown prince’s visit is currently underway.

The visit is expected to mark the third face-to-face meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman within a five-week timeframe.

Notably, recent interactions between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have seen a surge in bilateral engagements, with a high-level trade delegation from Saudi Arabia, led by Deputy Minister for Investment Ibrahim al-Mubarak, visiting Pakistan to explore investment opportunities across various sectors and strengthen ties with local entrepreneurs.
