7 barber shop staffers hailing from Punjab shot dead in Gwadar

In a tragic incident, at least seven individuals were shot dead while they were asleep in their residential quarters in Gwadar, Balochistan’s port city. The attack occurred on Thursday in the Surbandar area near the Gwadar Fish Harbour.

According to Mohsin Ali, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Gwadar Police Station, unidentified gunmen carried out the attack, leaving seven dead and one injured. The victims were reportedly laborers working at a barber shop in the area and hailed from district Khanewal in Punjab.

The deceased and the injured were swiftly transported to Gwadar Hospital for medical attention. Five of the victims hailed from Mian Channu, as revealed by the Tehsil’s assistant commissioner.

Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti strongly condemned the attack, expressing condolences to the families of the victims. He vowed to use all necessary force to apprehend the perpetrators and their accomplices.

Home Minister Mir Zia Ullah Langau ordered an investigation into the incident, denouncing it as an act of terrorism. He assured that those responsible would face severe consequences.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed the condemnation, labeling the attack as cowardly and emphasizing the government’s commitment to combating terrorism.

PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also condemned the killings, urging swift justice for the perpetrators.

This latest incident adds to a string of violence in Balochistan, including the recent killing of 11 people in Nushki district. The victims, primarily from Punjab, were targeted in separate terror attacks.

In March, security forces thwarted an attack on the Gwadar Port Authority colony, highlighting the persistent security challenges faced by the region.

The attack has once again raised concerns over the security situation in Balochistan, prompting calls for enhanced measures to protect civilians and combat terrorism.
