In an ambitious move to enhance the pilgrimage experience for millions of Muslims, Saudi Arabia is set to introduce modern technologies such as flying taxis and drones during the upcoming Hajj season. This initiative aims to ensure a smoother and safer journey for pilgrims from around the world.
Saleh al-Jasser, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Transport and Logistic Services, announced the plan, highlighting the intention to test flying taxis and drones to optimize operations and provide maximum comfort for guests. Speaking to Al Arabiya, a state-owned international Arabic news television channel, Saleh emphasized the competitive landscape among transportation companies to deliver practical solutions in the coming years.
“The integration of flying taxis and drones is under thorough examination to potentially become a permanent fixture in future facilitation initiatives,” Saleh stated.
The initiative has garnered praise from international quarters, with Muhammad Umar, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Religious Ministry, commending Saudi Arabia’s commitment to modernizing the pilgrimage experience. Umar highlighted Saudi Arabia’s proactive measures, including the Hajj Portal, Nusuk app, pre-booking of Riazal Jannah, implementation of biometric e-visas, and the development of a virtual Hajj app.
The introduction of flying taxis and drones aligns with Saudi Arabia’s dedication to ensuring pilgrims’ comfort and convenience, particularly in light of challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. These technological advancements, coupled with existing facilitation measures, aim to transform the Hajj journey into a spiritually fulfilling experience for all participants.
