In a recent report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), it was revealed that Pakistan earned a substantial $13,683.251 million from textile product exports during the first ten months of the current financial year (2023-24).
However, the report also noted a slight decline of 0.19 percent in textile exports during the period of July to April (2023-24) compared to the same period in the previous financial year. During July-April (2022-23), textile exports amounted to $13,709.246 million.
The report highlighted both positive and negative trends within specific textile categories. Among the commodities witnessing positive trade growth were raw cotton, experiencing a remarkable surge of 319.91 percent, cotton yarn with a growth of 32.83 percent, and bed wear with an increase of 1.82 percent.
Additionally, exports of towels and made-up articles saw increases of 4.81 percent and 0.67 percent respectively. However, several categories experienced declines, including cotton cloth (-7.53 percent), cotton carded or combed (-15.93 percent), and yarn other than cotton yarn (-20.76 percent).
Further negative growth was observed in knitwear (-3.92 percent), tents, canvas, and tarpaulin (-16.52 percent), ready-made garments (-0.57 percent), art, silk, and synthetic textiles (-12.08 percent), and other textile materials (-0.87 percent).
Despite the overall slight decline, on a year-on-year basis, textile exports increased by 0.37 percent from April 2023 to April 2024. However, on a month-on-month basis, textile exports decreased by 4.84 percent compared to March 2024.
The fluctuations in textile exports highlight the dynamic nature of Pakistan’s textile industry, influenced by both domestic and international factors.
