Raoof Hasan, spokesperson for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was attacked by unidentified individuals in Islamabad on Tuesday, leaving him injured.
The motives behind the attack remain unclear, and details of the incident are sparse. PTI released a brief statement on the matter, which did not elaborate on the circumstances of the attack.
“Extremely shameful and deplorable,” PTI commented on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan was attacked by unknown persons outside the office of a private channel.”
A video accompanying the statement shows Hasan, visibly injured and with blood on his face, asking for a doctor as he walked into a building.
In another statement, PTI highlighted the broader implications of the attack, stating, “If the spokesperson of the largest party can be attacked in the federal capital in broad daylight, then what can we make of the safety of others?”
In response to the incident, PTI staged a walkout from an ongoing Senate session in protest. The walkout was brief, and party leaders returned to the session, condemning the attack on their senior member.
