Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir is currently on a significant visit to Germany, engaging in discussions with key civil-military leadership, according to a statement released by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Thursday.
Upon arrival at the Federal Ministry of Defence, General Munir was warmly welcomed by General Carsten Breuer, the German Chief of Defence. In a formal ceremony, he received a guard of honour presented by a contingent of the German Armed Forces, underscoring the visit’s importance.
General Munir also held a crucial meeting with Lieutenant General Alfons Mais, the Chief of the German Army. The discussions were followed by a visit to the Army Combat Training Centre in Gardelegen. During this visit, he was briefed on the centre’s various facets and observed the training programs provided to the German Army and allied contingents. A highlight of the visit was witnessing a demonstration of urban warfare tactics and touring different training facilities.
In Berlin, General Munir met with several high-ranking officials, including Jens Plötner, the German Chancellor’s Foreign Policy and Security Adviser, Tobias Linder, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and Nils Hilmer, the State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence. These meetings covered a range of topics, focusing on areas of mutual interest and cooperation.
The German leadership expressed appreciation for the Pakistan Army’s significant role in combating terrorism and contributing to regional peace and stability. This acknowledgment underscores the strategic importance of Pakistan’s military efforts on the global stage.
Continuing his itinerary, COAS Munir is scheduled to visit the German Armed Forces Command & Staff College in Hamburg. There, he will address an audience of international students on Pakistan’s regional and international security perspectives and the contributions of the Pakistan Armed Forces to United Nations (UN) missions.
This visit marks an essential chapter in Pakistan-Germany military relations, highlighting shared interests and reinforcing cooperation between the two nations.
