Pakistan is set to launch its highly anticipated PAKSAT MM-1 satellite later this week, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s quest for enhanced connectivity and digital infrastructure. The satellite, which promises to revolutionize communication across the country, will be launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center (XSLC) in China on May 30 by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco).
The launch ceremony, which will be broadcast live from Suparco’s Islamabad and Karachi establishments, is seen as a monumental step towards achieving a digitally connected Pakistan.
In a statement, Suparco highlighted the importance of PAKSAT MM-1 in establishing a sophisticated communication network to meet the rising demands of the telecom sector. “The satellite is expected to contribute to the establishment of a sophisticated communication network and help meet the growing demands of the telecom sector,” Suparco stated.
With its advanced capabilities, PAKSAT MM-1 is poised to address the increasing need for high-speed internet and seamless connectivity. The high-power multi-mission satellite will offer communication services in C, Ku, and Ka bands, as well as Satellite-Based Augmentation System (SBAS) services in the L band.
Suparco emphasized that the satellite would be instrumental in transforming Pakistan into a Digital Pakistan. “It will provide various communication services like broadband internet, TV broadcasting, mobile bank hauling, and VSAT connectivity,” the commission added.
Dr. Usman Iftikhar, Project Manager MM-1 at Suparco, explained that PAKSAT MM-1 is a communication satellite that will be positioned in geostationary orbit at an altitude of approximately 36,000 kilometers from Earth.
The upcoming launch follows the historic deployment of ICUBE-Q on May 3, which was part of China’s Chang’E6 mission, further showcasing Pakistan’s growing capabilities in space technology.
