Nation celebrates 26th Youm-e-Takbeer with zeal and fervour

The nation is fervently observing the 26th anniversary of Youm-e-Takbeer today, commemorating Pakistan’s successful nuclear tests conducted in the Chaghai hills. These tests, conducted in 1998, elevated Pakistan to the status of the seventh nuclear-armed country in the world and the first within the Islamic community.

The nuclear tests symbolized Pakistan’s firm resolve to protect its territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty, while also aiming to maintain strategic balance in South Asia.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani, and various military leaders extended their congratulations to the nation on this significant day.

A Collective Effort: PM Shehbaz Sharif

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the nation for its collective efforts that led to this achievement, emphasizing that May 28 represents more than a commemoration—it encapsulates Pakistan’s arduous journey towards establishing credible minimum deterrence. “May 28 signifies more than just a mere commemoration of a day; it encapsulates the narrative of our nation’s arduous yet remarkable path towards establishing a credible minimum deterrence,” the prime minister wrote on X.

Sharif highlighted the bold leadership of Nawaz Sharif on that historic day in 1998, who resisted immense pressures to make Pakistan a nuclear-armed nation. He also paid tribute to Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, the founder of Pakistan’s nuclear program, for his strategic foresight and dedication.

A Momentous Occasion: Military Leaders

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, alongside the chiefs of the armed forces, extended heartfelt felicitations to the nation. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) noted that this occasion commemorates Pakistan’s historic achievement of credible minimum deterrence, which restored the balance of power in the region. The statement highlighted the dedication and sacrifices of those who made this achievement possible against overwhelming odds.

A Testament to Resilience: Acting President Gilani

Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani, in his message, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to global peace and stability. He remarked that Youm-e-Takbeer is a testament to the nation’s resilience and unwavering determination. Gilani emphasized that Pakistan, as a responsible nuclear state, firmly believes in the peaceful resolution of conflicts, demonstrating its nuclear capabilities as a deterrent rather than a threat.

The day is marked by nationwide celebrations and reflections on Pakistan’s journey towards becoming a nuclear power, underscoring the significance of national unity and strategic foresight.
