Peshawar police barred from making TikTok videos

In a move aimed at enhancing the efficiency and professionalism of the police force, Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Kashif Zulfiqar has issued an order prohibiting police officers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) capital from creating and uploading TikTok videos.

The directive, released on Thursday, explicitly states that police personnel are not permitted to share any videos on social media platforms, even if they pertain to arrests. “TikTok videos affect the performance of the police [officials],” the order emphasized.

The ban was instated following criticism from both opposition and treasury benches regarding the police’s presence on TikTok, according to sources.

This is not the first instance of such restrictions on police personnel in KP or other provinces. In September 2022, the KP police had similarly banned the use of smartphones during duty hours to ensure officers remained vigilant and responsive in the event of emergencies.

In recent times, KP police officers have utilized various social media platforms to voice their grievances on issues such as inadequate facilities, indicating a broader challenge of balancing professional conduct with the growing influence of social media.

The latest order also includes a warning of strict action against any officers found violating these instructions, underscoring the administration’s commitment to maintaining discipline within the ranks.
