The Institute of Regional Studies in Islamabad hosted a significant symposium bringing together members of the Sikh community, civil society participants, and key government officials from both Pakistan and abroad. The event celebrated Pakistan’s initiatives in promoting global peace, harmony, and prosperity, as well as its efforts in preserving Sikh holy places within the country.
Federal Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazir Tarar addressed the participants, emphasizing the importance of the Sikh religion and its sacred sites. “The Sikh community plays an important role in the development of Pakistan,” said Tarar. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to religious freedom, stating, “All religions have complete freedom in our dear country. We are creating more facilities for Sikh pilgrims.”
The participants, including Sikh communities from abroad, expressed their gratitude towards the Pakistani government. Dato’ Pritam Singh from Malaysia remarked, “We were welcomed in Pakistan with great honor and respect. The Sikh nation exists as a minority in Pakistan, yet we are given a lot of respect.” His compatriot, Datuk Sacha Singh, added, “We felt as if we had come to our own home. I am very grateful for the acceptance and respect this country has given us.”
Dr. Manjeet Singh, also from Malaysia, shared his positive experiences, saying, “We were treated very well, which made us very happy. We have a religious and spiritual connection with Pakistan and have always been respected here.”
The foreign Sikh community widely appreciated the Pakistani government’s efforts to promote religious harmony. Participants noted that the symposium was a testament to Pakistan’s dedication to fostering interfaith dialogue and understanding, strengthening the bonds between diverse communities globally.
