Pakistan and China sign 23 MoUs to boost bilateral cooperation

In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Pakistan and China have signed 23 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance cooperation across various sectors. The agreements were formalized on Friday in Islamabad, marking a new chapter in the strategic partnership between the two nations.

The MoUs encompass a wide range of areas including transportation infrastructure, industry, energy, agriculture, media, healthcare, water management, and socioeconomic development. This extensive collaboration underscores the depth of the Pakistan-China relationship and their shared commitment to mutual development.

Following high-level discussions between Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing, Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch briefed the media on the robust Pakistan-China Strategic Cooperative Partnership. She highlighted that the partnership is rooted in mutual trust, shared principles, and strategic governance.

Both countries reaffirmed their support for each other’s core interests and dedicated themselves to advancing the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The leaders emphasized the importance of completing ongoing CPEC projects promptly and efficiently.

Prime Minister Sharif assured the Chinese leadership of Pakistan’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Chinese personnel and projects in the country. He also pledged to protect the CPEC from any detractors or adversaries.

In addition to these commitments, the two nations agreed to maintain high-level engagements and strengthen institutional linkages across all sectors. They also resolved to continue consultations on bilateral and global issues, especially in light of Pakistan’s upcoming non-permanent membership on the UN Security Council for the term 2025-2026.

During his visit, Prime Minister Sharif engaged with Chinese investors and entrepreneurs, highlighting investment opportunities in Pakistan. This engagement led to the signing of numerous MoUs in key sectors such as the economy, green energy, textiles, and manufacturing.

Before his departure to China, Prime Minister Sharif expressed a strong desire to foster mutually beneficial investments and enhance business relations between Chinese and Pakistani enterprises. He emphasized the potential for significant economic benefits for both countries, reinforcing his commitment to deepening this vital bilateral partnership.

The signing of these MoUs represents a strategic step forward in the enduring friendship between Pakistan and China, promising substantial advancements in various fields of mutual interest.
