In a ceremonious display of diplomatic warmth and mutual respect, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was accorded a grand welcome at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday.
Upon his arrival, PM Shehbaz was greeted by his Chinese counterpart, Premier Li Qiang. The Prime Minister was presented with a guard of honour by a contingent of the People’s Liberation Army of China, symbolizing the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations. The occasion was marked by the playing of the national anthems of both Pakistan and China, adding to the grandeur of the event.
In a gesture highlighting the strength of bilateral relations, Prime Minister Shehbaz introduced key members of his delegation to Premier Li. The delegation included Army Chief General Asim Munir and federal ministers Ishaq Dar, Khawaja Asif, Ahsan Iqbal, and Atta Tarar.
Following the welcoming ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz is scheduled to hold a significant meeting with President Xi Jinping. The agenda includes discussions on enhancing cooperation and fostering pragmatic cooperation in various fields. Additionally, the Prime Minister will meet with Zhao Liji, Chairman of the National People’s Congress Standing Committee.
One of the highlights of the visit will be the signing ceremony of several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between China and Pakistan, aimed at strengthening cooperation in multiple sectors.
This official visit, taking place from June 4 to 8, is at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, and underscores the importance both countries place on their strategic partnership.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has expressed a keen interest in learning from China’s development model, reflecting Pakistan’s aspiration to benefit from China’s economic and technological advancements.
