The federal government has granted conditional permission to export 150,000 metric tons of sugar, responding to the demands of sugar mill owners. This decision was made during a meeting of the Sugar Advisory Board, which was chaired by Federal Minister of Industry and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain.
During the meeting, the Punjab government and the Pakistan Sugar Mills Association reached an agreement on the terms of the sugar export. Minister Rana Tanveer emphasized that the export of sugar will be closely monitored to ensure price stability and adequate stock levels within the country.
“Availability of sugar stocks and price stability will be ensured. Ex-Mill price of sugar will not be increased under any circumstances,” Rana Tanveer Hussain stated, underscoring the government’s commitment to maintaining market balance and protecting consumers from potential price hikes.
In addition to addressing export conditions, the minister assured that all pending payments to farmers would be prioritized. The Sugar Advisory Board is set to review sugar prices and market conditions every 15 days to ensure ongoing compliance with the established guidelines and to make necessary adjustments.
This move aims to balance the interests of sugar mill owners and the broader economic stability, ensuring that domestic needs are met without compromising the financial viability of the sugar industry.
