Education budget increased by 204% in annual budget

In a bold move aimed at enhancing educational opportunities nationwide, the federal government has announced a substantial rise in the budget allocation for the Federal Ministry of Education for the upcoming fiscal year. The proposed budget of Rs25.75 billion marks a staggering 204% increase from the previous fiscal year’s allocation.

Key highlights of the proposed budget include a provision of Rs2 billion for the Pakistan National Endowment Fund, aimed at supporting educational initiatives across the country. Moreover, funding earmarked for Daanish schools in Azad Jammu Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan is set to increase dramatically, soaring from Rs500 million to Rs5 billion.

Last year, the Ministry of Education was allocated Rs8.50 billion, underscoring the government’s commitment to prioritizing education as a cornerstone of national development.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb is scheduled to present the Rs18 trillion federal budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 in the National Assembly today. According to official sources, the budget will focus on fiscal consolidation to address the budget deficit while addressing key sectors such as agriculture, information technology (IT), exports, industrial growth, and business development.

“The budget has been carefully crafted to tackle existing economic challenges both at home and abroad,” sources within the government explained. They further emphasized the government’s dedication to formulating a budget that is pro-people, supports business growth, and fosters progressive economic policies.

The proposed increase in the education budget reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure and opportunities across Pakistan, ensuring a brighter future for the nation’s youth.
