Pakistan’s information technology sector has recorded a remarkable performance in the first ten months of the fiscal year 2023-24, earning $2.593 billion from IT service exports. This figure represents a significant 20.41% increase compared to the $2.135 billion earned in the same period last year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.
The computer services segment led the growth, with exports rising by 24.55% to $2.153 billion, up from $1.729 billion in the previous year. Within this category, software consultancy services grew by 10.80%, while hardware consultancy services saw a notable increase of 19.24%.
Information services exports experienced an extraordinary surge of 105.90%, primarily driven by the performance of news agency services, which skyrocketed by 167.58%.
Telecommunication services exports also showed overall growth, increasing by 7.04%. Notably, call center services within this category saw a substantial rise of 17.59%, although other telecom services experienced a slight decline of 1.56%.
These statistics underscore the expanding influence of Pakistan’s IT sector in the global marketplace. The significant increases across various IT service categories highlight the sector’s resilience and growth potential, providing a positive contribution to the national economy.
Industry experts suggest that this upward trend reflects the increasing global demand for Pakistani IT services and the country’s growing reputation as a hub for tech talent and innovation. The government’s focus on enhancing digital infrastructure and supportive policies is also seen as a crucial factor in sustaining this momentum.
