In a significant move aimed at reducing the workload of teachers and promoting their professional development, the Punjab government has announced that all government schools in the province will remain closed on Saturdays.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat revealed this decision, emphasizing that Saturdays will now be dedicated to teachers’ training programs. “Teachers of government schools are burdened with work,” Hayat stated. “The burden on teachers of government schools has been reduced.”
Starting this week, government schools across Punjab will conduct classes from Monday to Friday. The new policy reserves Saturdays exclusively for teacher training sessions, providing educators with the opportunity to enhance their teaching skills and methodologies without the pressure of regular classes.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to alleviate the heavy workload on teachers in government schools. “The weekend holiday is designed to improve the overall quality of education by focusing on the professional development of our educators,” Hayat added.
Furthermore, the minister announced plans to extend the working hours of government schools on weekdays, although specific details on this adjustment have yet to be disclosed. The extension aims to ensure that instructional time is maximized from Monday to Friday, ensuring that the quality of education remains uncompromised despite the introduction of the Saturday holiday.
