In a humanitarian initiative, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has approved special permission for medical and dental students from Gaza to continue their education in Pakistan, as reported by ARY News.
The decision, initiated at the behest of the Pakistani High Commissioner in London, aims to support students affected by recent upheavals in Gaza. A spokesperson confirmed that a special committee has been established under the leadership of the PMDC President to oversee the integration of these students into Pakistani educational institutions.
The committee, which includes representatives from the Ministries of Health and Foreign Affairs, will ensure the seamless transition and education of approximately 100 students from Gaza. The first cohort, comprising 20-30 students, is expected to arrive imminently.
“The students will be accommodated in various medical and dental colleges across Pakistan,” stated the PMDC President, emphasizing the committee’s commitment to facilitating their academic journey.
This decision follows recent developments in Gaza, where new evacuation orders have displaced a significant number of civilians. According to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), approximately 250,000 individuals have been affected by these recent measures.
Meanwhile, the situation in Gaza remains tense, with ongoing casualties reported amidst the broader humanitarian crisis. Israel’s recent military actions in the region have resulted in a reported death toll of at least 37,925 people, predominantly civilians, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
The approval by PMDC marks a significant step towards supporting education amid crisis, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to humanitarian aid and international solidarity.
