Pakistan rejects US religious freedom report

Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, announced the country’s rejection of the recent US report on religious freedom and criticized it for its lack of transparency.

In her weekly media briefing, Baloch asserted that the report fails to acknowledge Pakistan’s extensive efforts to promote religious freedom and does not contribute positively to the advancement of human rights. The report had recommended that the US State Department designate 17 countries, including Pakistan, as Countries of Particular Concern (CPC) due to severe violations of religious freedom. It highlighted issues such as the enforcement of blasphemy laws and the failure to protect religious minorities from forced conversions.

“The report overlooks the significant strides Pakistan has made in ensuring religious freedom for all its citizens,” Baloch stated, underscoring the nation’s commitment to human rights.

In other announcements, Baloch revealed that the Pakistani government has approved a plan to allow Gaza’s medical students to complete their education in Pakistan. These students will be joining Pakistani medical colleges soon to pursue studies in fields such as cardiology and surgery.

Addressing matters related to Afghanistan, the spokesperson mentioned that Asif Durrani represented Pakistan at the recent Afghan conference in Doha. During a meeting on July 1, Pakistani and Afghan officials discussed Pakistan’s concerns about terrorists receiving support from within Afghanistan.

“Pakistan has serious reservations about the support for terrorists originating from Afghanistan,” Baloch noted, adding that these issues were comprehensively addressed during the Doha meetings. Both nations are actively engaged in discussions to resolve these critical security concerns.
