Today marks the eighth anniversary of the martyrdom of Burhan Muzaffar Wani, the revered commander of Tehreek Azade-e-Kashmir, celebrated as “Resistance Day” across Kashmir. Remembered for his courage and leadership, Wani was martyred on July 8, 2016, in Kukarnag area, fighting bravely against Indian forces.
In observance of this day, Kashmiri people on both sides of the Cease Fire Line have gathered to pay homage to Wani’s legacy. Organized by Pasban Hurriyat Jammu Kashmir, rallies and ceremonies have been held across Azad Kashmir. A notable ceremony took place at Khatman Nabubat Chowk in the capital, where Kashmiri youth, organized under Pasban Hurriyat, saluted the martyrs and reaffirmed their commitment to the Kashmiri resistance.
Amidst passionate chants for freedom and slogans honoring Wani’s memory, Kashmiri youth also demonstrated solidarity with Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. “We will attain freedom from India,” they proclaimed, echoing their determination for independence.
Highlighting the symbolic significance of the day, a “Run for Freedom” race, organized by Pasban Hurriyat, saw 313 Kashmiri youth participate, running from Yadgar Shahada Chhatar to Burhan Wani Shaheed Chowk.
Addressing the gathering, Uzair Ahmed Ghazali, Chairman of Pasban Hurriyat, emphasized Wani’s pivotal role in exposing Indian atrocities through social media and inspiring Kashmiri youth to resist the occupation. “Burhan Wani Shaheed’s resistance against Indian imperialism will forever resonate in history,” Ghazali declared, underscoring the ongoing struggle for Kashmiri freedom.
As the day unfolds, Kashmiri youth reaffirm their vow to continue the fight against India’s unlawful occupation, echoing their belief in the right to self-determination and the enduring legacy of Burhan Wani Shaheed.
