ISI Granted Authority to Trace Calls

In a significant move aimed at bolstering national security, the Federal Cabinet has approved granting authority to a designated officer of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) to trace calls. The approval was given through a summary circulated among the cabinet members.

Sources reveal that this decision was made to enhance national security measures and to preempt any potential criminal activities. The Federal Cabinet has exercised its power under Section 54 of the Pakistan Telecommunication Act, 1996, to authorize this measure.

Further details indicate that the officer entrusted with this responsibility will be of a rank not lower than grade 18, ensuring that the role is filled by a highly qualified and experienced individual. This development underscores the government’s commitment to leveraging technological tools and intelligence capabilities to safeguard the nation.
