The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed the removal of former cricketers Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq from the national selection committee following the team’s poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2024.
“The PCB today confirmed that it has notified Abdul Razzaq and Wahab Riaz that their services will no longer be required in the national selection committee setup,” read the board’s press release.
The announcement follows a report from Geo News, citing sources, which revealed that the board had lost confidence in the ex-cricketers due to their backing of underperforming players during the tournament.
Riaz and Razzaq’s dismissal comes after the PCB had restructured the men’s national selection committee in March this year, aiming to enhance transparency in the selection process. Despite these efforts, the team assembled by the panel failed to deliver in all series since then.
Riaz was a member of the men’s selection committee, while Razzaq served on both the men’s and women’s selection committees. The men’s team’s early exit from the T20 World Cup and the women’s team’s consecutive losses in bilateral series against England and West Indies prompted the board to reconsider their roles.
